Gun trophy: Crimea
A photo of the fountain in Ropner Park includes a gun. The photo is dated 1902 and is probably too early for the gun to be from the Boer War.

The question "Where did the cannon go?" was asked by a lady from Ripon who remembered sitting on it while listening to the band on Sunday afternoons.
