Memorial Description

Records of men who left Tynemouth Gas Works for service in the First World War. [1915], 5 leaves, 35cm., manuscript.
A brown sugar-paper cover carries a label, with a printed border, on which is written: “Casualty Sheet / Munition Workers / German Colonies Taken”.
On the front of the first page are the words "Enlisted Sheet". The Enlisted Sheet comprises 8 pages of foolscap paper, made, by glueing pages together, into two four page spreadsheets. Vertical lines, drawn in red ink, have divided the spreadsheets into columns, giving them the appearance of an accounts ledger. The Enlisted Sheet is hand-written in black ink.
The section relating to munitions workers has been left blank. A table of statistics of military casualties for 1914 is followed by a list of German Colonies captured by British Forces in 1914.
