In 1994 the Synagogue was converted into an Arts Centre and the memorial is now at Graham Park Road Synagogue, Gosforth. See G9.38

Unveiled February 1923 by Cllr. Sol Levy, President of the Jewish Community in South Shields.

Memorial Description

Plaque. Above each name was a memorial light, which was lit on the anniversary of the death of the soldier and burned continuously for 24 hours. The wording is in a mix of English and Hebrew.

1. There were 60 Jewish families in the town, and 50 men joined H.M. Forces.

2. The names of the fallen include two sets of brothers.

3. A Jewish Book of Honour is now available to honour the Jewish contribution to wars.
