Memorial Description

Roll of Honour of pre-printed design on card behind glass in a plain moulded frame 460mm high x 310mm wide. There is a border of laurel leaves with roundels at the corner depicting emblems of top left: Australia; top right: Africa; centre left: Canada; centre right: New Zealand and centre bottom: India. At centre top is a larger roundel containing flags of all the countries involved. Beneath it is a ribbon containing the words “For King and Country” in red letters, and “European War 1914-1916” underneath.
At the bottom is a Roll of Honour bearing two names of those who fell. Names are calligraphed in two columns in black faded to brown.

Present condition

Faded but readable.

Notes

1. From the dates, (1914-1916) it would appear that this is a Roll that was added to as time went by, showing that people had no idea how long the war would last.

2. Comparing the names of two who had already died on this Roll of Honour with those commemorated on P32.01, “George Francis Waller” had been adjusted to “John Francis Waller”.
