Unveiled 27th January 1921 by Mr. A.J. Dawson, M.A., O.B.E., Director of Education in Durham County.

Memorial Description

Plaque 2 feet 6 inches high x 2 feet wide mounted on a dark wood pattress 4 inches wider all round. At centre top St. Michael is shown slaying the dragon. At centre bottom is the school logo. The names are listed in three columns. All lettering is in Art Nouveau-style capitals.

Notes

1. From the school, 105 former pupils had served.

2. In 1920, at the prize giving ceremony, a large portrait of Nurse Cavell was unveiled, paid for by the scholars and staff. The children who had lost their fathers were given War Savings Certificates, the cost being defrayed from the prize money won by the scholars for Morris-dancing at the Coxhoe Children’s Gala.
