Memorial Description

Two stained glass windows, each about 80 inches high and 20 inches wide.
The left hand window depicts Christ walking on the water. Underneath is a tiny man in the water, hands reaching out for help. The lettering reads "It is I, be not afraid".
The right hand window depicts St. George in armour with the slain dragon. At the foot is the dedication, with the lettering mostly painted in black using Gothic upper and lower case letters, while the name is on a yellow pane, which is painted black, with the paint removed to leave the lettering in yellow glass.

1. Newcastle Journal 12/11/1945 reports:- Memorial to airman
Stained glass windows in memory of Brian Filmer, R.A.F., former member of the church, and son of Mr. and Mrs. P. Filmer. of Harrison Road. Willington. were unveiled at St. Mary’s Church. Willington-on- Tyne, on Saturday, and were dedicated by the Archdeacon of Northumberland (Ven. C. H. Ritchie). Brian Filmer was drowned while prisoner of war in Japanese hands November, 1943. and included in the windows is a representation of his death when the ship in which he was being carried was sunk. The memorial service was conducted by the vicar (Rev W. Cully)
