a. Unveiled 2nd October 1920 by Major-Gen. Sir Percy Wilkinson, dedicated by Rev. H.A. Arnold, Rector of Wolsingham.

Memorial Description

Cross of Celtic type, total height 17 feet 6 inches, on pedestal resting on three steps. At the top are the words “Our / glorious / dead” raised in elaborate letters in a sunken panel which follows the cross shape. The whole set on a concrete base with eight low pillars with metal rods between. The dedication and names for both wars are on the pedestal. Lettering is incised using sans serif capitals throughout.

1. The Auckland and County Chronicle 04/03/1920 reports:-

The plan of the Wolsingham Memorial to the men of the parish who gave their lives is on exhibition in the window of the sculptor Mr J.G. Brown, who has been entrusted with the contract of making and erecting the column. The design it is interesting to know is also Mr Brown's work.

2. “Eight stone pillars with plain bronze rail were placed around the memorial when completed; these were later removed”.

3. “Mr. Brown also has the design of the Frosterley memorial in hand”.
