This cot was endowed by a fund raised by members of the / Civil Defence Wardens service of South Shields as a memorial to the / following five of their comrades who made the supreme sacrifice / during the war of 1939-1945.

3. The plaque is dated 18th October 1944 and commemorates the donation of a bed through a fund raised by the members of the Civil Defence Wardens Service of South Shields, in memory of fellow members: Hilda Thompson, William
George Baldry, George Bertram, James Oswald Norrie Slesser and Stanley Sutton, who died during 1939-45 war.
