a. Unveiled 30th May 1920 by Brig. Gen. W.H.J. Allgood, C.M.G., D.S.O. Dedicated by the Rector of Simonburn.

Memorial Description

Plaque 16 inches high x 20 inches wide of white marble set in a plain red marble frame. The names are listed in two columns, the lettering is incised and painted dark grey, using serif capitals throughout.
The names from 1939-45 are added at the bottom and painted black.

Materials used

Sicilian white marble on red marble base.

a. To the glory of God and in / honour of these men of our parish / who fell in the Great War 1914-1918
b. 1939-1945

Notes

1. It was agreed that there would be:
(i) a tablet in the church to the fallen;
(ii) a cross for those who served.
Any surplus funds would be used as a nucleus for a village hall.

2. The unveiling had to be postponed from 22nd May because the plaque had gone astray. It was unveiled on the same day as the cross.
