Unveiled September 1919 by Mr. Bray, secretary of the Durham Club branch.

Memorial Description

Roll of Honour behind glass, 36 inches high x 43 inches wide, in dark oak frame. At centre top is a crouched lion in front of a union flag. The words “Roll of Honour” are painted in red on a green background. To right and left of the names are two cartouches, the representing “War” (left) and “Peace” (right). Above the lists of names is a swag.
At the bottom is an oval cartouche containing the names of the club’s officers. The names are handwritten in eight columns, using black serif capitals.
Those who fell have a red asterisk to the left of their name, the blinded have a mark beside their name.

The back has been repaired at some time. There is a tear in the paper mount.

Notes

1. In an oval at the bottom, the names of the officers in December 1919 are Wm. Tribble (Treasurer); John Littleton (President); Geo. Jones (Secretary); Committee members are Wm. Baily, R. Munday, Nat. Cloughton, Geo. Chapman, Jas. Fletcher, J.G. Brown, M.McCabe, J. Fisher.

2. Of the total membership of 620, 252 served, 16 died or were killed in action, one deprived of his eyesight. They earned 1 x VCs., 3 x DCMs, and 9 x MMs.

3. The memorial, when seen in 2000, was in a Committee Room stood beside a wall. It was in 2015 on display at the top of the stairs.
