Notes

1. Faculty 2369 12/02/1965 allows the addition of the inscription to the existing war memorial screen in the church indicating that names on it refer to 1914-18, and indicating that the screen is also in memory of those who died in 1939-45.

2. The memorial “takes the form of an oak dwarf screen on the panels of which are inscribed the names of some sixty men connected with the church and parish who made the supreme sacrifice”. First hundred years of Jesmond Parish Church

3. The options discussed for the 1914-18 memorial included (a) a bronze figure of St. Michael, estimated at £1,000; (b) chancel screen (£900); (c) dwarf screen (£450); (d) Saxon style cross in the churchyard.

4. The Parochial hall was used as a canteen for soldiers during 1939-45; the Anti-aircraft contingent held their annual parade in the church.

5. Following the 1939-45, suggestions were made for a memorial chapel and book of Remembrance, but were not followed up. Names were added to the Great War screen instead.

6. Captain Herbert Wall and Lance Corporal W. McDougall received gallantry medals.

7. Charles and Arthur Daglish were brothers who lived at 218 Doncaster Road, Sandyford.

8. Philip and Geoffrey Sanderson were brothers living at Eastfield Hall, Warkworth. There is a plaque to each of them in Warkworth Church.

9. Major A.G. Parsons was the son of Sir Charles and Lady Parsons.
