Notes
1. The War Memorial Rose Garden, with 30 bushes in each of 2 beds, was laid out in 1972. The original plaques did not mention a war memorial. They read “Presented by / the Hexham Branch / of the / Royal Air Force Association.”
2. When the land to the east of Cowgarth was re-ordered and the paths relaid in 2001, as part of the Hexham Parks Landscape Restoration Scheme, the rose beds were inadverdently dug up. Tynedale Council gave another piece of land, a long narrow border on the north edge of the garden, just to the south of Abbeygate House, along with a new plaque and 60 rose bushes.
