Notes

1. Although the conflict is usually referred to as the Gulf War, the War Graves Commission has said that, technically, the Gulf Conflict was not a war.

2. Nine Fusiliers of the 3rd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, served.

3. The Shields were sold by the Battalion to those who had served in the War who wanted to buy one. L/Cpl Whale had the dedication plate inscribed and mounted on the plaque above the shield, then presented it to X Company 6th Battalion R.R.F. as a remembrance of the nine members of C Company who were killed only 72 hours before action in the war ended, in the so-called "Friendly Fire" incident, one of these being Fusilier Kevin Leech of Prudhoe.

4. Ivan Whale used to be in the Territorial Army, based in Hexham. He volunteered to serve in the Army in the Gulf War.
