Notes

1. "When the last war had ended the Council decided to ask those who returned from HM Forces and the Merchant Navy, and the relatives of those who unfortunately did not, the form in which they would like a memorial to take. The greater number of votes was for a hall and on a site adjoining the Central Park to the west of the Memorial stone a Hall, erected with public subscription, was dedicated on Remembrance Sunday, 6th November 1949, a memorial to those who gave their lives in the Second World War. Their names are recorded on a plaque at the entrance." (Booklet published by Gosforth Urban District Council, 1953;)

2. "..The Shopping Precinct was built on the site of the Central Hall and Gosforth Civic Hall was erected behind Lansdowne Crescent, near the junction of the Great North Road and Regent Road. In the entrance is a plaque containing a list of those from Gosforth who died in the service of their country..." (Quotation from Booklet cited below)
