Notes

1. Both St. James’ Church and the Venerable Bede Church were demolished, the former through failure of the fabric and the latter through vandalism. The hall of the Venerable Bede Church was restored as a centre with chapel using furnishings from the old church and the two congregations were amalgamated.

2. Out of a population of 8,000 the figure of 216 losses "is said to be almost a record in losses in the war"

3. For a while the plaque was stored in the cellar of the St. James and St. Bede Church Centre, Wordsworth Street, Gateshead. It was then moved to Gateshead Old Town Hall, West Street, NZ 254633 in 2012.

4. June 15th 2019 it was officially "unveiled" in St. Edmund's Chapel by the Mayor of Gateshead Councillor Michael Hood.

5. As regards the Venerable Bede War Memorial yes I moved the plaques into St Edmunds Chapel last April. The War Memorial was moved from the Venerable Bede’s Church on Sunderland Road when it was demolished in the 1980’s and from my understanding it was stored in the basement of the now St James & St Bede Church Centre which was located next to the Church. It was later restored and bequeathed to Gateshead Council in 2012 who installed it in the Old Town Hall, West Street, Gateshead. Due to austerity measures the Old Town Hall was sold to a private enterprise and the decision was taken to remove the War Memorial as it would no longer be publicly accessible and we could not guarantee its safety. The War Memorial was then temporarily stored in Gateshead Councils, Shearlegs Road Depot until Faculty approval was received from the Diocese of Durham.
