Memorial Description
Stained glass window of five lights. One window features the arms of the original 9th DLI, and the arms of the new 17th DLI. These are on either side of the central window, which bears the arms of Col. Sir Frank Robert Simpson.

Private subscription.
Present condition
The windows did not survive the fire which damaged the Church in 1979.

1. The plaque survived the fire and was incorporated into a composite memorial. See
G39.59
2. The Church was made redundant in 1978. There were fires in 1979 and 1983. The building was restored in 1986 by the North East Civic Trust. It was converted for use as Phillips’ Auction House. Reopened as a Visitor Centre by Newcastle City Council in 2000. Now re-opened as Gateshead Heritage@ St.Mary’s.
