Plaque 1 foot 7 inches high x 2 feet 2 inches wide set on a pattress 1 foot wider all round. There is a cross and the “IHS” monogram at the top. Dedication is in Roman capitals with the quotation in italics.

White marble plaque on brown marble pattress.

To the Glory of God
and in loving memory of
JOHN ARCHY LAING, M.G.C.
who fell in action at
Delville Wood, Battle of the Somme
31st August 1916 aged 19 years.
Greater love hath no man than this, that a
man lay down his life for his friends.
