Memorial Description

Plaque 5 feet high x 2 feet wide with wide ornate border of carved leaves. The central panel has an ogee top. The plaque is divided into two panels which bear the names. The top larger panel bears the names from 1914-18 and the smaller lower one those from 1939-45. In each case the names are listed in two columns, the lettering being carved to stand proud, using elaborate capitals throughout.

Notes

1. The faculty listed above also allowed for the removal of no more than two pews to make space for a pedestal for flowers in front of the memorial. The estimated cost of adding the lower panel for 1939-45 was “not yet known” but £13 had been received in general subscriptions”. The design was by H.L. Honeyman.

Diocese of Newcastle Faculty Book 2, No. 1671, 27/10/1948, allows lower panel to be added to the original memorial to accommodate the names from 1939-45. The faculty also allowed for the removal of no more than two pews to make space for a pedestal for flowers in front of the memorial.
