Notes
1. This could be the oldest school in the country.
2. Mr. Phillips was a former teacher in the school.
3. Mr. Phillips’ name was not included on the panelling in the school.
4. The window was commissioned by Sidney Robert Ellis Phillips – Art Master and Housemaster of Durham House at the School from 1908 until shortly before his death on 28th September 1948 – together with other members of his family - in memory of his brother who was wounded at Antwerp while serving in the Royal Naval Division, and died at Aachen – presumably as a Prisoner of War.
5. W.G.E. Phillips was an Able Seaman in the Benbow Battalion with a Service Number of London 1/3557 and was the son of Charles and the late Clara Emily Phillips. The 1901 Census shows Charles and William – then aged 11 - living in Paddington, with Charles working as a Barrister’s Clerk. It is probable that, by then, Clara had already died.
6. Strathmore Lodge members are acknowledged as having recorded the story of the window.
