Memorial Description

Plaque 3 feet high x 4 feet 9 inches wide set into a wide dark green marble frame 4 feet 2 inches high x 6 feet wide. Round the edge is a wide border of oak leaves and acorns, with ivy leaves along the bottom edge. In the top right hand corner is the Royal standard. At centre bottom is the badge of the DLI raised in half relief and enamelled. The names are listed in four columns in raised capitals. The top four lines of the dedication are in larger lettering than the lower four.

To the memory of the undermentioned / Officers, Non Commissioned Officers and / privates of the 3rd Militia Batt. Durham / Light Infantry who with the Battalion / volunteered for active service & gave their lives / for their country during the war in South Africa / 1899-1902 this memorial is erected by the Officers / Non Commissioned Officers & men of the Battalion.
