Bench 18th D.L.I. 1914-18
Durham riverbank 200 metres from the Bandstand. On the Racecourse.
Dedicated September 2016 by Very Rev. Andrew Tremlett. The Bench was unveiled by Cllr Edward Bell and Colonel James Ramsbotham.
Bench with back featuring soldiers in silhouette. With the name of the 18th Durham Light Infantry wrought in the back of the bench.
(Dedicated to the 18th D.L.I. Pals Battalion).
Trustees of the DLI, Durham County Council, University of Durham, Northern Echo and Durham Cathedral.
Funded by a public appeal by the Somme Memorial Partnership, made up of Durham cathedral, Durham County Council, Durham University, the DLI Trustees and the Northern Echo and Funded by public donations.

2. On the first day of the Battle of the Somme, the Pals lost 75 men with a further 250 wounded.
3. At the Somme unveiling, a party of 30 DLI Veterans and their families attended Monday's ceremony.
4. Also at the ceremony and unveiling at the Somme was Major Paul Wharton, chairman of the DLI Association, Hon Colonel James Ramsbotham, of the Rifles Association, Cllr Edward Bell chairman of Durham County Council, Col Jacques Maguin, district commander of the Somme, Terry Collins, chief executive of Durham County Council and Major Chris Lawton, secretary of the Durham Rifles.
