Memorial Description

Plaque 24 inches high x 34 inches wide. There is a wide border of stylised oak leaves. The names are listed in three columns in sans serif capitals. The words “For God, King and Country” at the top and the quotation at the bottom are in Gothic, the quotation being in red lettering.

For God, King and Country. This tablet was erected by the members of the / Allendale Cottages Wesleyan Church / in affectionate remembrance of / (names) / Who paid the supreme sacrifice in / the Great War 1914-1919. “In life eager, in service faithful, in death triumphant.”

Notes

1. The Centenary was celebrated in September 1974. The last service was held on Sunday 23rd May 1976, conducted by Rev. John J. Mitchell. The building was later demolished.

2. In a photo showing a hymn singing night with Frank Wappatt on 13th April 1976, the memorial plaque can be made out, with the eye of faith, on the front of the choir stall on the right.
