Davidson, J., 2nd Lieut., 1918
On the Soissons Memorial is the name of Second Lieutenant James Davidson, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 27/05/1918.

Ken Morrison of the Scottish War Memorials project has submitted the following:

2/Lt. J. Davidson Northumberland Fusiliers
James Davidson – age 21 – Second Lieutenant, Northumberland Fusiliers attached to 15th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry.

James was born in Morpeth, Northumberland but spent some of his early years in Langholm.

After leaving Langholm, he attended the Grammar School at Morpeth before serving his apprenticeship as a draper.

He enlisted in the 21st Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers (2nd Tyneside Scottish) in September 1915 and as Corporal (21/53) he landed with his battalion in France in January 1916. He returned to the UK in 1917 for officer training and was commissioned in November 1917. He was reported to have died of wounds but his burial place was lost.

In 1901 James aged 4 and his siblings Alice 6 and John 3, were living with an aunt, Mary Pringle, in Charlotte Street, Langholm.

He is remembered in Morpeth on M17.01, M17.06, M17.09 and M17.12
