In Hagle Dump Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 2453 Serjeant Edwin Armstrong, serving with the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry who died 20/11/1915.

In Whitley Bay Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

In loving memory of
a beloved daughter
Monica E. Reed
who died May 9th 1957, aged 48 years.
Also Brian, darling son of above
who died Dec. 22nd 1941 aged 10 years.
Elizabeth Armstrong
who died Jan. 8th 1959 aged ?9 years
Also her husband Edwin Armstrong
killed in action Nov. 20th 1915 aged 32 years.
At rest.

The name of Edwin Armstrong does not appear on any local north-east England memorial. He is, however, remembered in Thorne, South Yorks.
