Derek Johnstone has provided the following:
William Taylor was born at Newcastle-on-Tyne about 1895 to parents Alfred and Florence Maud Taylor, both born at Newcastle-on-Tyne.
The 1901 Census shows that the Taylor family lived at 13, Dilston Road, Westgate, Newcastle, where William’s father was a joiner. Siblings in the household included Alfred Norman, 5, and Fredrick Albert Victor, aged 3. William at this time was aged 6 and his parents were 27 years old.
By 1911, the Taylor family had moved to 29, Percy Road, Whitley Bay, Northumberland, where William, aged 16, was employed as a draper's apprentice.
Military records show William enlisted at Newcastle-on-Tyne and his Pension Index Card confirms only his parents' names and no wife is shown, indicating William was not married.
William Taylor is remembered in Whitley Bay on W84.01 and in the Battalion History page 144
