In Whitley Bay (Hartley South) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 49208 Flight Lieutenant (Pilot) Robert William Robson, serving with the Royal Air Force who died 20/06/1945.

The family headstone reads:

In loving remembrance
Of our dear son Pilot Robert William Robson
killed in flying accident June 20th 1945 aged 23 years
His company was our greatest treasure.
Also Thomas Thorpe Robson
dear father of the above
died Sept. ?18th 1957 aged 73 years.
