In Whitley Bay (Hartley South) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 983581 Aircraftman 2nd Class Stanley Holbrook Docking, serving with the Royal Air Force Voluntary Reserve, who died 27/05/1940.

The family headstone reads:

Cherished memories of
Stanley Holbrook
dearly loved son of
Joseph and Ethel Charlton Docking,
died May 27th 1940, aged 25 years.
Also the above Ethel
died Oct. 4th 1962, aged 83 years.
Also the above Joseph Docking
died Jan. 26th 1975, aged 90 years.
