In Adinkerke Churchyard Extension is the Commonwealth War Grave of 203382 Lance Corporal Ernest James Carr, serving with the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry who died 24/07/1917.

In Whitley Bay (Hartley South) Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

George, S.B.R. died Nov. 4th 1918
Aged 33 years.
Ernest James, K.O.Y.L.I.
died July 24th 1917, aged 25 years
interred in France.
Arthur, S.G., died Nov. 28th 1917
aged 20 years.
The dearly loved sons of
George and Sarah Carr. <
Who gave their lives in their country's service.
"Greater love hath no man than this".

His brothers Arthur and George are also named on this headstone.
