George Jary

On the Arras Memorial is the name of Z/5748 Able Seaman George Jary, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 24/04/1917.

Colin Boyd has supplied the following:

George was born on 14th July 1897 and was working as a labourer living with his father, John at 63, Palmers Terrace, Willington Quay when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 29th June 1915.

He joined the Howe Battalion on 1st December 1915 and served until he was hospitalised on 27th September 1916 suffering from an Abscess in the right groin.

George rejoined the Howe Battalion on 26th November 1916 and was reported as killed in action on 24th April 1917.

George Jary's name does not appear on a local memorial.
