Cable, J.G., L/Sman, 1917
In Hamel Military Cemetery, Beaumont-Hamel is the Commonwealth War Grave of KX/92 Leading Seaman John Gilbert Cable, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 04/02/1917.

Colin Boyd has submitted the following:

John was born in 1895 and was working as a labourer living with his brother, James, at 53, George Street, Willington Quay when he enlisted in the Northumberland Fusiliers on 3rd September 1914. He transferred to the RNVR and was posted to the Nelson Battalion in Gallipoli and served until 13th July 1915 when he received a shrapnel wound to his left leg which necessitated his evacuation to the UK on 18th August 1915.

He joined the Drake Battalion in France on 26th November 1916 and was killed in action on 4th February 1917.

John Gilbert Cable is remembered in Tynemouth on T36.14 page 6, W7.23 and as "J. Cable" in Willington Quay W56.03
