On the Loos Memorial is the name of 11494 Sergeant James Bell Usher, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 26/09/1915.

In Wallsend (Holy Cross) cemetery is a headstone which reads:

Killed in action
26 Sept. 1915
And his daughter
Jane A. W. Usher
Died ?28 Aug
(the rest is eroded and unreadable)
