Angela Conroy has submitted the following death notice which appeared in the Evening Chronicle on Saturday 16/10/1915:
'BRIGGS.-Killed in action in France on the 27th? Sept; Private Robert Norman Briggs, 13th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, aged 21 years, dearly beloved son of Margaret and the late John Briggs, 21 Lawson Street, North Shields (late of Howdon). He marched away so bravely, His young head proudly held; His footsteps never faltered, His courage never failed. Then on the field of battle, He calmly took his place; He fought and died for Britain And the honour of his race. Deeply mourned and sadly missed by his sorrowing mother, brothers and sisters.'
