The Shields Daily News 27/11/1944 reports:

"D.F.C. for Shields Pilot Officer.
The D.F.C. has been awarded to Pilot Officer J. Alan Jackson, aged 22, only son of Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Jackson, of 56 The Quadrant, North Shields, who has completed his first tour of 40 operational flights.

Born in South Shields, Pilot Officer Jackson left a training college for teachers in 1941 to volunteer for service with the R.A.F. and was commissioned on Nov. 9th last year.

He is a grandson of Mr. John Paul and the late Mrs. Paul, of Lytton Street, South Shields."
