At Lala Baba Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 8/11225 Lance Corporal, Acting Corporal William Daniel, serving with the 8th (Service) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers who died 22/08/1915.

William Daniel was born on the 21st October 1893, at North Shields, Northumberland, son of William Daniel, of North Shields, Engineer, and his late wife Annie Hutchinson, daughter of John Porter.

William was educated at the Queen Victoria School and Tynemouth School.

He also was a Boy Scout.

In 1911, William was residing at 52 Drummond Terrace, North Shields, Northumberland, with his father (who died in 1914), his mother Annie had died in 1898. When his father passed away, he them moved in to with his Uncle, Thomas and Aunt, Margaret Parsley who lived at 76 Chirton West View, North Shields, Northumberland.

William was apprenticed as a Chemist with Messrs' Mason & Co.

He was a good all-round athlete, being a member of the North Shields Park Villa Football Club and of the North Shields White Star Harriers.

William enlisted at Newcastle-upon-Tyne on the 24th September 1914, and was sent to the Dardanelles on the 10th July 1915. He died from wounds received in action on Sunday 22nd August 1915. He was aged 21.
