Raymond Roxby

On the Malta Memorial is the name of 1139259 Sergeant Raymond Roxby, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 27/11/1943.

An unnamed newspaper report contains the following:

First A.T.C. Cadet to join the R.A.F.
North Shields Sergeant presumed lost.

The first member of Tynemouth A.T.C. to be called for service with the R.A.F., Sergt. Wireless Operator Air Gunner R. Roxby, 21 year-old son of Mrs. G. Roxby and the late Mr. T. Roxby, of 17 Scorer Street, North Shields, is presumed to have lost his life in the Mediterranean zone. He was reported missing in air operations last November.

A native of North Shields, he was educated at Ralph Gardner Senior School and then became an office boy in the Corporation Social Welfare Department. He was a clerk in the same department before joining the Royal Air Force.

He is remembered in North Shields on N34.10
