McKean, J.E.M., A/Smn., 1915
On the Helles Memorial is the name of Tyneside Z/1752 Able Seaman John Emery Myres McKean, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 20/07/1915.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

John was born on 25th May 1891. He was working as a sawyer living with his wife, Marie at 26, Church Way, North Shields when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 14th November 1914.

He joined the 2nd Platoon, "A" Company of the Collingwood Division on 4th February 1915.

After transferring to the Hood Battalion John was posted as being killed in action in Gallipoli on 20th July 1915.

John Emery Myres McKean is remembered in Tynemouth on T36.14 page 18.
