In Ovillers Military Cemetery, Somme, France, is the Commonwealth War Grave of Captain Frederick Lewis Vernon serving with the 26th (Tyneside Irish) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who died 01/07/1916.

Frederick Vernon was born in Newport in 1884. He was commissioned on the 25th January 1915, and served in the 26th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers (3rd Tyneside Irish). He was killed on the 1st July 1916 at Ovillers.

Frederick L. Vernon is remembered in Jesmond on J1.22, J1.42 and J1.57
