LONGBENTON

Bormond, J., civilian, 1941

In Longbenton Cemetery is a family headstone for Bormond which reads:

In loving memory of
Anna Bormond
dearly beloved wife of Joseph Bormond
Died 28th July 1923 aged 39 years.
Also Joseph Bormond
died 30th December 1941 aged 60 years.

The North East Diary 1939-45 page 2, states that a UP shell exploded on the roadway at Station Approach, Benton. (NZ277688). Two people were killed, three were seriously injured and one was slightly injured.

The Clerk to Longbenton UDC died in the Sanderson Home, Gosforth, identified as Joseph Borman, died in the R.V.I.
