In Longbenton (Benton) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 24/8 Private J. Connor serving with the 24th (Tyneside Irish) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who died 26/06/1918.

The headstone reads:

Pte John Connor
24th Northld.
Fusiliers
Died June 23 1918
Aged 33 years

R.I.P.

John Connor enlisted on the 2nd November 1914. He served in 'A' Company, and was discharged on the 3rd June 1918 after being wounded on the 21st March 1918, whilst with the 3rd Battalion.

John Connor is remembered at Longbenton on L25.02 and L25.01
