Merryweather, W.P., A/Smn., 1916
In Ancre British Cemetery, Beaumont-Hamel, Somme, France, is the Commonwealth War Grave of Tyneside Z/15181 Able Seaman W.P. Merryweather, serving with the Nelson Battalion Royal Naval Division, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, who died 13/11/1916.

Morpeth Herald 12/01/1917 carried a brief obituary:
Official news has been received by Mr and Mrs Merryweather of 1 Double Row, Dudley Colliery, that their son, Able Seaman W. Merryweather, R.N.D., was killed in action on November 13th.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

William was born on 20th September 1886. He was working as a miner living with his father, George at 1, Double Row, Dudley Colliery when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 10th June 1915.

He joined the Nelson Battalion in France on 21st October 1915 and was posted as missing later reported as killed in action on 13th November 1916.

He is remembered at Dudley on D34.01
