Farnworth, R., A/Smn., 1917
On the Arras Memorial is the name of Tyneside Z/638 Able Seaman Robert Farnworth, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 23/04/1917.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

Robert was born on 31st August 1895 and was working as a miner, living with his father, Nathan at 7, Double Row, Bates Cottages, Seaton Delaval when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 22nd October 1914. He joined the Hood Battalion on 2nd November 1914 and served until 13th November 1916 when he was hospitalised with a shrapnel wound to the left thumb. Robert rejoined the Hood Battalion on 2nd January 1917 and was posted as being killed in action on 23rd April 1917.
