Thomas was born on 5th June 1892. He was working as a miner living with his father, Joseph at 16, Double Row, Bates Cottages, Seaton Delaval when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 10th May 1915.
He joined the Anson Battalion on 22nd November 1915 and was badly wounded, suffering shell wounds to his right thigh and right hand, on 14th November 1916. Thomas died of these wounds in the 44th Casualty Clearing Station on the same day.
