In St. Sever Cemetery, Rouen, Seine-Maritime, France, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 1737 Private John Besford, serving with the Northumberland Hussars, who died 07/03/1916.

Morpeth Herald 17/03/1916 carries a brief obituary:

Private John Besford, son of Mr Thomas Besford, a well-known Cowpen miner, has died in hospital in France from illness. He has only been a short time in France. He was recently visited there by his parents. Deceased was only 25 years of age, and was in the Northumberland Hussars.

John Besford is remembered at Blyth on B42.24
