Sgt. Barker was killed when Vickers Wellington III DF666 of 156 Squadron was lost on a mission to Dusseldorf. It was shot down by a Luftwaffe night-fighter flown by Oblt. Manfred Meurer of III/NJG1, with the loss of all five crew members. The crew are buried in the private burial ground of Baron van Pallandt, which lies in the grounds of the castle of Rozendaal, now a public park.
