He was born at Fintona, County Tyrone, Ireland. A Clerk residing at 16 Carlton Street, Blyth, he was Initiated into 659 Blagdon Lodge, Masonic Hall, Beaconsfield Street, Blyth on the 16th November 1904; Passed 15th March 1905 and Raised on the 17th May 1905. He was the husband of Minnie. W. Bates of Blyth, Northumberland. He enlisted at Blyth and was killed in action on the 6th September 1917 aged 36. He is buried in Coxyde Military Cemetery, Koksijde, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, Grave Reference III.F.3.
