In Cowpen (St.Cuthbert's) Roman Catholic Burial Ground is the Commonwealth War Grave of 25/32 Private James Carroll, serving with the 25th (Tyneside Irish) Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 17/12/1917.

He is remembered in Morpeth on M17.17 and M17.31 (where the name is given as "Carrol" and in Cowpen on C58.04
