Morpeth Herald 19/01/1917 carries a brief obituary:
A Blyth man, who was colonising in South Africa, responded to the call to arms for the German East African campaign, has been accidentally killed. He was trooper [sic] J. Arnold Partridge, eldest son of Mr and Mrs James Partridge, of 11 Union Street, Blyth, and was 24 years of age.
