He was the son of William and Mary Foster, of 11, Crofton Arch, Blyth.

Morpeth Herald 30/11/1917 carries a brief obituary:

Private John Charles Forster [sic], N.F., son of Mr Wm. Forster [sic], of Crofton Arch, Blyth, is reported killed in action on October 10th. Before enlistment he worked as a miner at New Delaval. His brother, Gunner Forster [sic], was killed some time ago. Private Forster, who was 24, had been in France since Good Friday.

He is remembered at Blyth on B42.24
