F/Sgt Darney was serving with 186 Sqdn. He was a crew member of Lancaster I MG147 AP-C which took off from Stradishall on a mission on a synthetic oil-producing plant at Wanne-Rickel but the aircraft crashed three minutes after take-off at Kedington, exploding on impact. None survived.
