Until the Day Breaks

Joseph Wakinshaw Simpson born in 1895, was the youngest of five sons of Matthew and Margaret nee Purvis of Dye House, Hexhamshire. Matthew was a Butcher and Farmer. The sons included Matthew (1883) , William Thomas (188), Robert John (1890) , Henry George (1892) and Joseph. The daughters were Annie Margaret (1887), Mary Elizabeth (1889), Sarah Hilda (1897) and Lilian Irene (1900). By 1917 the family had moved to Juniper House.

Joseph enlisted and joined the 3rd Battalion (Special Reserve) of the Northumberland Fusiliers. He died at Sunderland Sanatorium 19th March 1917.

No medal card has been identified and he is not remembered on a local War Memorial.
